Lunch is served daily As a healthy, well-balanced diet is a vital part of early development, our programme serves whole grain products, organic produce when possible, and does not serve "sugary" or "junk" foods. This approach ensures the highest possible nutrition levels and helps avoid blood-sugar spikes throughout the day. At Alderwood House, children are also given opportunities to participate in the preparation of their own simple, tasty meals. We work hard to introduce children to different types of food and varying culinary art styles and techniques; parents and other guests may occasionally join for the day to introduce something new! We do not allow outside food or drink, other than formula, milk and water. Teachers use community snack times, focusing on table manners and good eating habits, to teach. As children may get hungry at different times of the day, our Chef is in the kitchen throughout the morning and afternoon, and as children get hungry, they often disappear into the kitchen where they know they can get an extra tasty treat or drink while they visit with the Chef.
