To enroll your child in our program, or to go on our waitlist, we ask that you complete an application form as well as have a tour of the school. Our tours are usually held on our open house dates, which are once a month, usually on Saturdays. If there is an available space in a class, or for families who can not attend the open house, we will give individual tours, however this is rare, as we do not want to interrupt the classes at work during the day.

Spaces, when available, are offered following an interview with the child and family. Our interview process helps us identify families that will best fit within the Alderwood House community - not every family is looking for the same type of school, and it is important to us that there is a strong philosophical fit between our educational program and the family.

We also consider child development and how the child will fit within the class group. For children applying to the two, three or four year old class, we will usually request an interview and/or observation of the child within the classroom setting.

Preference will be given to siblings of current students or alumnae, provided they meet our requirements. If we are unable to offer your child a place at this time, we encourage you to remain on our list - spaces do come available throughout the year and a space may be offered to your child at a later date.

When a space does become available, you will be sent our registration package. This includes medical forms, permission forms and a detailed child information sheet. A welcome meeting with your classroom teachers will also be scheduled. To hold your space, a $150.00 non-refundable registration fee is due, as well as a security deposit, which is 1/2 month tuition. Once this paperwork is completed, your space in the school is confirmed, and a gradual entry date for your child will be set.

Families applying to our one year old, or “baby” class will be interviewed in the fall one year before the child would attend (if the child was born in 2010 and would start fall 2011, the interview would be late fall, 2010). We offer spaces out for the summer/fall baby class by the end of the preceding year (usually by Winter Break).

Spaces do sometimes come available, though, so we encourage you to consider joining the waitlist if you feel Alderwood is a good fit for your family. We do not register any child to begin school after January and before July each year. Mid-year starts are very stressful on both the new child and on the existing class.
